Did you know that candy floss originated in Italy in the 15th Century? The confectioners heated sugar, generating a liquid caramel that they transformed into threads for cake decoration, making them an elite symbol due to their high price.
It was not until years later that, ironically, a couple of American dentists created the cotton candy machine, based on the way in which pastry chefs in Italy transformed candy. Thanks to them, candy floss as we know it was unveiled in 1904, at the World’s Fair in St Louis, Missouri. Since that day the famous candy floss has been recognised – and enjoyed – worldwide.
